Nad pojazdami napędzanymi parą, myślano już w XVII w. Karl Benz skonstruował pierwsze auto w 1885 w Mannheim, niedługo później otrzymał patent i w 1888 rozpoczął produkcję. Gottlieb Daimler wraz z Wilhelmem Maybachem w 1889 w Stuttgarcie zaprojektowali pojazd działający na podobnej zasadzie.

Ulica Kopernika jak Krakowskie Przedmieście

Za kilka lat ulica Kopernika ma przeobrazić się w reprezentacyjną promenadę - w dawnych budynkach kliniki mieściłyby się instytucje kultury otoczone ogrodami. Tak przynajmniej widzą to autorzy zwycięskich koncepcji zagospodarowania tego terenu, wyłonionych właśnie w miejskim konkursie urbanistycznym.
